EP 58 - Finding Hope and Purpose from a Life of Darkness with Charlene Madden
Tuesday Mar 01, 2022
Tuesday Mar 01, 2022
Today I welcome Charlene Madden, who admittedly spent most of her life living in a state of darkness.
**A gentle warning, this episode discusses suicide. If you are feeling vulnerable in this area, please consult with a doctor or mental health professional in your area. Or call one of the Suicide Prevention numbers listed in the resources.**
After she experienced over nine years of sexual trauma, a decade of domestic violence, more than three decades of mental illness, and suicidal ideology, she was two days away from committing suicide when she attended a women's workshop that saved her life.
She authentically shares the struggles that she has experienced in a way that reaches into the hearts of listeners in a profound and relatable way. By discussing topics of childhood sexual violence, domestic abuse, and mental illness, she is on a mission to shatter the stigma surrounding these topics.
She began her healing journey and found her purpose by turning her darkness into a message of hope. Believe me when I say that her story and vulnerability will impact you!
Here are three reasons why you should listen to the complete episode:
- Charlene shares her story of sexual trauma, domestic violence, mental illness, and suicidal ideology.
- Find out how a women's workshop saved her life just two days before her planned suicide.
- Discover her journey of hope and purpose through self-love and overcoming fear.

EP 53 - From Darkness to Life - with Ryan Oscar of OCJ
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
One of my biggest life lessons I am working on is patience….well, patience has paid off in this case because I finally had the opportunity to sit down with one of the members of Our Collective Journey, also known as OCJ. My guest is Ryan Oscar who is one of three cofounders of OCJ and the podcast From Darkness To Life.
The goal of Our Collective Journey is to connect people with people, to Strengthen communities through the power of shared experience. They pride themselves on authentic, honest connections with individuals that are rooted in shared experiences.
They are there for many reasons, which you’ll hear about in this episode, but what I KNOW they are doing so amazingly well, is helping people share their stories, because every time that happens, it helps erase the shame for others which helps them not feel so alone in their pain.
Find Ryan and Our Collective Journey at https://ourcollectivejourney.ca/ and on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/ourcollectivejourney/.

EP 52 - The Art of Grieving - with Preston Zeller
Tuesday Jan 11, 2022
Tuesday Jan 11, 2022
Today's guest is Preston Zeller and I'm really excited for you to meet him and hear his story!
As a creative person, I was immediately interested in learning more about his grief journey. And what I found out about his story, makes me think there was a higher power that wanted us to meet....our stories of loss and grief are very similar.....and we are both wanting to do something meaningful with our grief...by helping others.
Preston is an artist with accomplishments across multiple mediums, including film, photography, music and fine art. Following the death of his brother in 2019, Preston set out to paint for a year straight to process his own grief and share the experience along the way to stir conversation about how we deal with grief in society.
The 365 paintings, which create a 10'x20' mosaic, are the subject of a feature-length documentary entitled, "The Art of Grieving". The documentary is set for release in Spring 2022.
Preston now helps others through grief by creating commemorative paintings using the ashes of a loved one. His goal is to normalize grief conversations and proliferate healthy ways of dealing with grief.
You can find Preston on Instagram @prestonzeller and the film website is https://theartofgrievingfilm.com.
